A mod that adds Carl from the DejojoTheAwsome channel as both a pet and a squeaky lil' plush-like block.I
Obtaining
Hidden in Igloos that happen to have a basement, a bucket with Carl inside can be found! Alongside our
little duck friend, a yellow Smithing Template can be found to be used later.
Functionality
Carl doesn't really have much of a proper use aside from being cute - and let's be honest, that's plenty
enough to expect from him.
He can be emptied from his bucket like most other "Mob in a Bucket" items, similar to Salmon or Cod.
But, oh no! Your friend has perished and dropped a plush form of himself. Well, from here, there's two things
to do with him - either annoy your friends by right-clicking the cutie by placing him down on the ground, or
use the previously mentioned
Smithing Template in combination with both the Carl item and a Water Bucket within a Smithing Table to
return him into his bucket.
The Smithing Template used in this process can be duplicated similar to other Smithing Templates, using 7
gold ingots and a snow block in the centre alongside the base template at the top-centre slot.
Origins
The original appearance of Carl is from DejojoTheAwsome's Create: Above and Beyond series, where in the finale episode he would reach space travel alongside 6 ducks.II Why did he take 6 ducks with him to space? Well, during a livestream of the series, a channel moderator by the name of Inaala_Nailo had donated 60 dollars (USD) total to save 6 ducks that would've otherwise been used to create Eternal Stellas.III, VI At the time, this wasn't very significant in the Carl lore, but would serve as the foundation of Carl's return in a later series - Create: Arcane Engineering.
And so, on Episode 15 of Create: Arcane Engineering, he discovered the 6 ducks within a meteorite.V The specific name "Carl" may seem like an odd choice, but the first actual mention of Carl is in this episode, quote:
We nearly consumed Carl's flesh as a sacrifice to our own lives.VI
- The Space Ducks
Fun little detail that may or may not have been intentional, Carl was the first one to be picked up by Dejojo after agreeing to help the 6 ducks out.VII
In Create: Arcane Engineering's finale episode, Dejojo would take Carl with him onto the next modpack to leave the remaining 5 ducks, unnamed to this day, to go overseas and do their own thing.VIII
He Rises?
December 22, 2023 - the request was made on that night, and so therefore I delivered. Carl the Space Duck to be ported to a newer version of Minecraft, later revealed to be played with in the Create: Mekanized series.
He Rises!
Well, he hasn't risen just yet, but he has sent down a message encased within the shell of a meteorite within episode 6 of Dejojo's Create: Mekanized series.IX While the message is written in the fictional language of Quackese, the translated version of it reveals that Carl is trapped on the planet Glacio.X
Reaching the Create: Mekanized finale, episode 13, Dejojo works towards creating a Creative Fluid Tank in order to surprise Carl on Glacio, as it's one of the final goals left to accomplish. Once the Creative Fluid Tank, final tier of Rocket, and the Dragon Egg have been acquired - he launches to Glacio to find Carl, where he has crash landed and is waiting for him.XI
This is actually the first time where the Carl mod is used in a DejojoTheAwsome setting!
The Modern Day
Moving past this point, a lot of Carl-related activities are separated from the main content of Dejojo's channel. However, the mod still receives many updates and has gathered a large amount of easter egg textures for Carl to wear. While not particularly canon to Carl lore, I like to think that these easter egg skins are simply different versions of Carl from different universes - the Carlverse, if you will.
Misc Stuff
There exists a fictitious language in Carl lore called Quackese. There exists no official translation between Quackese and English, so we'll just have to take Dejojo's word that he is fluent in the language.XII
Carl likes to feed on Dragons and Dragon Eggs.XIII, XIV
Carl was, originally, only going to be a block that could be placed down.
The sneak + right-click functionality only came to be after Dejojo saw how Carl looked with a helmet that allowed for the beak to stay within the confines of said helmet.
When initially setting up the CurseForge page, a project under the ID of "carl" already existed, so the official Carl The Space Duck mod had to be created under the ID of "carl-duck-mod".
